Iowa Legislative Hall of Shame, 2017 session thus far

A bunch of really terrible bills have been introduced in the Iowa legislature thus far in 2017.

The session’s only being going for three weeks. So far, none of these horrible bills have been passed. In addition to holding Congress’s feet to the fire, we need to hold the state legislature’s feet to the fire too. We must keep them from passing any of the terrible bills below.

Here are the worst bills I can find:

SF 111, introduced by Chapman, Zaun, Behn, Brown, Breitbach, Bertrand, Chelgren, C. Johnson, and Anderson. This bill would make highway protests a felony and allows state attorney general to prosecute if the county attorney is too decent to do so.

SF 146, introduced by Chapman. This bill would permit carrying guns in school parking lots.

SF 103, introduced by Chapman. This bill would repeal the state inheritance tax.

SF 54, introduced by Chelgren. This bill would classify abortions of fetuses weighing more than 350 grams as felonies.

SF 53, introduced by Zaun. This bill would impose a bunch of restrictions on abortions.

SF 47, introduced by Zaun. This bill would impose voter ID requirements

SF 25, introduced by Chelgren. This is a stand-your-ground bill.

SF 27, introduced by Zaun. This bill would bar ACA funds in the state from being used for abortions.

SF 41, introduced by Zaun. This bill would abolish tenure at the state’s public universities.
